New Restaurants on the Upper West Side

There are some new restaurants to check out on the UWS this December!

The first one, Playa Betty’s, is a surf-themed bar opened that just opened this month and is sure to keep the winter blues awau. The emphasis is on beach-minded fare, with margaritas ($12 each) and tacos ($4-$5) with ingredients that range from fried chicken to tempura-battered avocados.

Also new to the neighborhood is  Crave Fishbar, the second location of Todd Mitgang and owner Brian Owens’s seafood cuisine (the other is in midtown). The focus is on sustainable seafood prepared in inventive ways, from spicy scallop tartare to lobster curry. A raw bar is also part of the mix.

Amity Hall, the new bar at 982 Amsterdam Avenue (108th-109th street), opened this month as well! The bar has a full kitchen and serves Irish and American entrees priced at about $15. Set to become the “neighborhood spot” it will also cater to families and locals who use the bar as a local gathering place.

There are also some places due to open soon – so keep your eyes out! Babeth’s Feast is set to open at 309 Amsterdam Avenue, between 74th and 75th street. The store sells gourmet frozen foods. Olma Caviar Boutique and Lounge has also put up its awning at 420 Amsterdam Avenue (80th). They’re aiming for a January opening.
