The Sagamore, conveniently located in the heart of the UWS on 89th and Amsterdam, is right in the middle of all the action and all wonderful things in our neighborhood has to offer. In the city that never sleeps, The Upper West Side is the perfect balance with the more commercial blocks of Broadway and Columbus filled with late night adventurers, shoppers and several restaurants and the quiet low key areas such as Riverside and West End with their parks and scenery. Here are some of the great perks of our neighborhood that we at The Sagamore know and love.

The Sagamore couldn’t have a more perfect location being right in the middle of it all on Amsterdam Ave. Just a few avenues over, Central Park is right there waiting for you. Perfect for outdoor activities, nighttime strolls and convenient to any of the events and fairs that are almost always happening. During the summer months, parts of Columbus further down in the 70’s are often blocked off on Sundays for Summer Street Fairs.

There are several cultural aspects of the neighborhood as well. The American Natural History Museum on 81st is one of the biggest attractions in New York City and it’s practically in our residents backyard! The Children’s Museum of Manhattan is also close by, as are the historical Church of St. Paul and St. Andrew located in Riverside Park.

Museums in the Upper West Side

Museums are a great advantage to living in New York City. Now that the snowy and cold weather will be settling in, it can make it more difficult to find fun activities to get involved with during the winter months. Lucky for our residents at The Sagamore, one of the many great perks the Upper West Side has to offer includes several museums right in our neighborhood that you can stop by and visit to help keep busy. Even if you have visited in the past, rotating exhibitions and special shows make it worth your while to stop in for another look.

The American Museum of Natural History is located on 81st Street and Central Park West. Only a subway ride away or short walk downtown, this museum has plenty to offer as it takes up the entire block! Besides their famous dinosaur floor and other permanent animal displays, they offer special exhibitions throughout the year. Currently you can find shows such as Countdown to Zero, The Secret World Inside You and the Butterfly Conservatory. AMNH also just unveiled their Titanosaur, which stands at 122 feet long and 19 feet tall.

The New-York Historical Society is just a few blocks further down on 77th Street and Central Park West. This museum offers a wide variety of exhibitions that are always changing. Right now you can find Superheoroes in Gotham featuring the third original Batmobile, Silicon City: Computer History Made in New York, Picasso’s “Le Tricorne” and Holiday Express: Toys and Trains from the Jerni Collection.
