Celebrate Memorial Day in NYC

Memorial Day is almost here, and there is plenty to do around New York City all close by to the The Sagamore to celebrate the holiday weekend. The forecast is looking warm and sunny as of now, making outdoor activities the go to for the weekend. Here are some fun events going on that our residents at The Sagamore can take part in.

There are several parades taking place across all 5 boroughs to celebrate Memorial Day this year. Just a little ways uptown from the Upper West Side, there will be a parade taking place in Inwood. The parade starts on Dykman Street and Broadway. Brooklyn and Queens will also both host their own parades, with the Little Neck Parade in Queens being the largest in the nation and Brooklyn’s King’s County Memorial Day Parade celebrating its 149 year! You can get more information about each parade here.

The Sagamore residents can take a ferry ride over to Governor’s Island to enjoy the nice weather over the holiday weekend. Memorial weekend celebrates their grand opening for the season, making it the perfect time to visit. There will also be a special family fest taking place. For more information you can visit their website!

For the 28th year in a row celebrate Fleet Week with other New York City residents. The week kicks off with the parade of ships on May 25th which will be celebrated with over 4,000 sailors in attendance. Throughout the week you can take tours of the different featured ships, explore different exhibits, watch drill performances, and much more. All the events of the weekend are listed in detail on their website.

Looking for more fun activities? Upper West Side residents can travel downtown to Washington Square Park or the Lower East Side for additional events taking place over the Memorial Day weekend!
