Memorial Day Weekend Outside the City

There are plenty of fun events going on around New York City that The Sagamore residents can be a part of this Memorial Day. If you are looking to get out of the city and celebrate, there is even more to take part in! In the neighborhoods surrounding NYC including Long Island, Westchester and the rest of the Hudson Valley, you can venture and explore the surrounding New York area by taking part in local activates.

If you are looking for an outdoor adventure to take advantage of the beautiful sunny weather (fingers crossed!), take a hike on one of the many trails upstate in the Hudson Valley. Bear Mountain State Park is just about an hour north of NYC and is a favorite of upstate residents. There are several hiking paths that you can choose from based on length and difficulty level. When you’re done, stop by the Bear Mountain Zoo and enjoy the company of all the wonderful animals the reservation helps take care of. Here are some other Hudson Valley hiking paths to check out.

Venture south of the city to Long Island and enjoy the fresh air and ocean breeze at Fire Island. Memorial Day weekend kicks the season off as the first big weekend. Rent a beach house for the weekend and walk the board walks, visit the many shops and restaurants or take a dip in the water if it’s warm enough! You can also take the ferry from one of several Long Island locations for a day visit.

If you are looking for some sun, there are plenty of Long Island beaches close by to the city all opening Memorial Day weekend. Even if the weather is not quite up to swimming in, sitting on the beach with friends, family, and a nice book can make for a relaxing holiday weekend. The local and popular Long Island beaches include Robert Moses, Jones Beach and Sunken Meadow.
