March has been the national month of Wen’s History since 1987. The month is dedicated to teaching and learning about the strides women have made throughout history. Women’s History Month is focused on bringing awareness and for everyone gain more knowledge to why there is a whole month dedicated to the history of the movement, and it is still a cause many fight for today. There are plenty of museums showcases the history of Women this month and special events taking place on the Upper West Side that our Sagamore residents can take part in. Here are some suggestions of where you can go to learn more.
New-York Historical Society: The New-York Historical Society will soon be unveiling the highly-anticipated Center for Women’s History, the only center permanently dedicated to the history of Women in the county. There will be several scholar programs, fellowships and talks that tie in with this new permanent Center. Part of the center has opened just in time for Women’s History month! Their Saving Washington exhibition grand opening takes places on March 8th and will be open through the end of July. Stop by the evening before for a night with Billie Jean King and hear about her role in the gender equality movement within sports. Other upcoming lectures include Women and the Washington, Dolley Madison and the White House and Women of the Year (1942).
