It’s time to break out your best green attire because St. Patrick’s Day is Friday March 17th and all over New York City preparations are taking place for the big celebration. The days leading up to St. Patty’s Day will be filled with anticipation for one of the biggest parades in the county. Irish flags will fly in the air as green, orange and white swarm the streets with people gathering to celebrate. Here are some local events our residents at The Sagamore can take part in to join the fun.
New York City’s St. Patrick’s Day parade is the biggest celebration in New York. Highly anticipated since the new year began the parade will take place on St. Patty’s day itself. The parade makes it way up Fifth Avenue starting on 44th Street and ending at the Irish Heritage Society uptown on 80th. The parade not only celebrates Irish heritage and music but you get a nice scenic view of the city passing through Central Park and St. Patrick’s Cathedral. If you don’t often make it over the east side from The Sagamore on the West, it’s a great chance to see some of NYC’s best! As the streets are filled with confetti and shamrocks, enjoy Celtic dances as hundreds of dancers make their way through the streets. There are also live marching bands, bagpipes and other musical performances. You can learn more about the big parade by checking out the events website.
Continue the weekend of celebrations by joining NYC’s St. Patty’s pub crawl the day after the parade! Purchase a wristband that will get you access to some of the most popular bars and pubs in the city. Drink specials will be offered all day as you make your way from bar to bar. You can see all the details on the event page!
