Day Trips Around NYC This Memorial Day Weekend

If you don’t have any plans this upcoming Memorial Day weekend and are still looking to leave the hustle and bustle of NYC for the holiday, there are plenty of day trips you can take to escape the craziness of the city. Here are some tips for our Sagamore residents who are looking to get out this Memorial Day.

Fire Island: Grab some friends and make a day trip down to Long Island and visit Fire Island. Accessible by public transportation, this spot is a favorite for a local getaway. There are plenty of places to eat and shop over the 32 mile stretch of the Island. Visit the historic Fire Island Lighthouse and take a tour of the tower, take a trip to the Sunken Forest and spend the day at one of the many shore bars on the Island. If you have a group looking to getaway make a weekend out of it and rent a house on the Island!

Hudson: Hudson has some of the best places to eat in Upstate NY and is easily accessible by train. Make your way from the Sagamore over to Penn and take an Amtrak train to this charming New York town. There is plenty that you can do– and something to please everyone if you plan on grabbing some friends to join you. Visit one of over 50 antique shops in the town, take a tour and walk along the town’s oldest streets and see some of the historic landmarks and buildings. There are several other boutiques and shops, auction houses and if you are lucky there may be a live performance happening in one of their event spaces!

Saratoga Springs: Take a bus out of Port Authority and take a day or weekend trip up to Saratoga Springs. This quaint town has plenty to do and is the perfect combination of things to do if you aren’t looking for a completely isolated spot to adventure to, while getting away from city life and enjoying the charm of a small town, beautiful nature views, and more. Visit one of the many shops along the local strip as you make your way through the town. Saratoga is also home to one of the biggest racetracks in the country.
