One of the biggest celebrations of the holiday season takes place right here in NYC and on the Upper West Side! Macy’s will once again make history with their 91st Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade celebration on Thanksgiving morning. On November 23rd, head out to the NYC streets and catch a glimpse of the best marching bands in the country, extravagant balloons and much more!
If you are looking to catch a glimpse without traveling far from your Sagamore UWS apartment, the parade will start close by on 77th and Central Park West. Head a few blocks downtown and line the streets as you can be one of the first to see what will be featured in this years’ show! If you are looking to avoid some of the major crowds, head over the night before as they inflate the balloons right here on the UWS!
As for Thanksgiving morning, there are plenty of stops around the parade route where you can see the new Olaf balloon, Entenmann’s and Sour Patch float or wait for Santa to make his appearance. The Parade makes it’s way down Central Park West and continues down Sixth Avenue once hitting Columbus Circle. While all parade viewing sites are crowded, the streets along the Upper West Side in the lower 70’s and 60’s are a little less chaotic and you have a great chance of seeing the parade! You can also head down to Columbus circle and catch the first major turn and full view of all balloons, floats and performers!
The parade starts at 9am but make sure to line up early if you plan on getting a view from the street! You can also view the parade live on almost every television network. Visit the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade website to learn more about this historic and fun holiday tradition!
