Rockefeller Tree Lighting Ceremony in NYC


Every Christmas and Holiday season the city comes to life in a way it doesn’t all year. Lights, decorations, markets and more can be found no matter what neighborhood you visit during this time of year. One of the many staples to kick off the festive season is the tree lighting at Rockefeller Center. Rockefeller Center is located in Midtown and is easy to get to from The Sagamore! Here is what you can do if you are looking to attend the tree lighting this year!


Time: The Lighting will take place starting at 7pm on November 29th. If you can’t ,make it for the grand opening ceremony, the tree will remain up until January 7th.


Location: Right in the middle of Rockefeller center is where all the action happens! Between Fifth and Sixth Avenue on 49th Street. Sagamore residents can transfer to the B or D train at Columbus Circle.


The Tree: This year’s chosen tree stands at over 75 feet tall. Coming all the way from Pennsylvania, the Norway Spruce will be decked out in lights and decorations. Over 45,000 LED lights and 25,000 crystals will make this year’s tree shine in the heart of NYC for the holiday season.


Performances: The Ceremony kicks off with several performances. Auli’i Cravalho the star of Disney’s Moana will be singing on the Rooftop and there will be additional musical performances by Gwen Stefani, Train and acpella performances. You can catch Hamilton’s Odom Jr. on the rooftop of the Plaza for a special performance as well as Henry Connick Jr.


The ceremony is open to the public and anyone can attend. If you plan on making the trip from the Upper West Side make sure to arrive early so you can get a close look at the tree! If you plan on waiting from The Sagamore you can tune into NBC for the live broadcast.
