One of the most visited tourist destinations in the city is the NY Botanical Gardens. To kick off spring, they will host their Orchid Show taking place for the 16th year starting the first week of March and lasting through the month into April! Here is everything our Sagamore residents need to know in preparation for this one of a kind experience.
Transportation: Just a 20-minute commute uptown for our Sagamore residents, this show is well worth the trip! Hop on the Harlem line Metro North train or take the B41 bus for the closest options to the Garden.
Exhibits: The show aims to bring the joy of Orchids and spring to NYC by showing off the work of some fabulous designers and teach those interested about one of the most delicate flowers. A special exhibition by Daniel Ost will be on display, which features an 18-foot sculpture. Through the exhibitions you can learn all about the 30,000 different species of Orchids and how the Botanical Gardens works towards helping to preserve them.
Programs: Regular programming will be taking place during the shows run. Some of these special programs visitors can participate in include guided tours, demonstrations on how to care for Orchids, and Q&A sessions.
Special Events: Special events will also take place as part of the show including a big Earth Day celebration! Take part in behind the scene tours, listen to the discoveries of scientists and learn more about the preservation of all the plants housed in NY’s Botanical Gardens. There will also be special Orchid Evenings that will take place on select dates and feature live music, special viewings of David Ost’s illustrations and much more!
