Tips for Leaving NYC for Upstate New York this Memorial Day

Thinking of getting away this holiday weekend? Memorial Day is the first long weekend of the summer and it’s right around the corner! Our Sagamore residents have the chance to explore all that Manhattan has to offer daily, but a long weekend makes for the perfect excuse to branch out to other parts of New York State. Here our some places our Sagamore residents can adventure to this upcoming Memorial Day weekend.

Long Lake: Looking to get in your first swim of the season Memorial Day weekend? Long Lake is 5 hours upstate and far away from the hustle and bustle of NYC. This town is up in the Adirondacks and offers several places visitors can stay and enjoy some relaxing time off right on the lake. Books, music, clothes and more this little town has just about everything, ensuring you’ll never be bored.

Hudson: This riverfront village is a few hours upstate and the perfect spot for escaping the city. Very different in its own ways from nearby Westchester, there are plenty of places to eat and things to do in this quaint town. Stop by one of the many local antique shops, or stroll along the town streets to take in the unique architecture of the gorgeous homes and buildings. You can get there by renting a car or by taking the Amtrak train.

Shelter Island: Close by to NYC, if you aren’t looking to make the trip upstate head to Shelter Island right on Long Island! This vacation spot is nestled towards the end of the island and right on the water. If beaches are more your vibe this is the place for you. Settle down on the sand at Sunset Beach or grab that book you have been dying to read and head to Wades Beach on the south end. This island may seem small but with several cafes. Eateries, historical societies, markets, bike shops and more there is plenty to do.
