The birthplace of Mardi Gras, New Orleans, may be quite a way’s away from our Sagamore apartments, but here on the Upper West Side, we can still celebrate it in full effect at the Cajun and Southern restaurants in the area.

If you love Hurricanes, po’ boys, fried oysters and jambalaya, then you certainly can’t miss out on the Mardi Gras festivities just because New Orleans is a bit of a hike. Celebrate near your home at these local Cajun eateries!

The Mermaid Inn, located at 570 Amsterdam Ave, New York, NY which is two blocks from your Sagamore apartment, is an upscale-casual seafood spot with a relaxed vibe known for its great deals on fresh seafood.

This Upper West Side restaurant has garnered a cult following, and for good reason – its seafood just can’t be beat and its freshness will make you feel just like you’re in the Big Easy. Celebrate here with some fantastic food and cocktails!

Where to Dine and Celebrate Mardi Gras in NYC

Mardi Gras is a day of celebration filled with festivities, food and fun! While the big celebration takes place down in New Orleans, if you’re spending the day here in one of the other greatest cities in the world there are plenty of great local eateries you can visit on Fat Tuesday. Here are some local places where our Sagamore residents can celebrate Mardi Gras around NYC this year.


Bourbon Street: The name of this local eatery says it all! Bourbon Street is located on 46th Street just a subway ride away for our Sagamore residents and will be hosting a day of celebration in honor of Mardi Gras. Specials include $5 Hurricane drinks, Abita and half price Jambalaya all day long. Happy hour will last all night and you can dine from their main menu or fixed price special. Dishes that will be served include Crawfish Etoufee, Cajun Chicken Pasta and Shrimp Creole. Beignets can be found on their dessert menu along with Bourbon Street Pecan Pie. Seating will be on a first come first serve so make sure to arrive early!

Loui Loui: Less than a ten minute ride uptown on Broadway and you will run into a local neighborhood Louisiana inspired establishment, Loui Loui. This spot is perfect for an authentic Southern Seafood meal to celebrate Mardi Gras. There menu includes items such as King Crab Legs, Steamed Crawfish, Fried Oysters and Cajun Fries. B.B King Blues Club & Grill: If you are looking for New Orleans inspired music and great food to celebrate Mardi Gras, our Sagamore residents can visit the Blues Club located on 42nd Street which will be hosting their annual Mardi Gras celebration for the 6th year in a row. George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic will be playing the best of their jazzy, soulful and funky tunes to help New Yorkers get into the Mardi Gras spirit. Tickets need to be purchased to attend the show and if you are looking to grab some Louisiana inspired food make sure to reserve a table!
