Nothing screams Halloween is here and fall has arrived more than some bright orange pumpkins! Whether you are looking for some festive decorations for October, would like to do some pumpkin carving and painting or are into baking some fresh pumpkin pie, tis the season to meet all of your pumpkin needs! Here are some farms and patches that are close by to The Sagamore around Manhattan, where you can grab pumpkins in all shapes and sizes.
Decker Farm: Located on Staten Island, Decker Farm is one of NYC’s very own pumpkin patches! The Sagmore residents can take the subway and ferry to the island if you rely on public transportation for pumpkin picking fun! In addition to picking your own pumpkins, they have plenty of fun activities if you are looking to spend the day there. Visitors can take a tour of the farmhouse, enjoy a fun hayride or trip through their corn maze, or visit one of their many arts and craft stations! Queens County Farm Museum: This museum is NYCs largest undisturbed farm. Their pumpkin patch will be open for picking every weekend during the month of October. The Museum also has a 3 acre corn maze on their property you can make your way through while visiting. Lawrence Farm Orchards
It’s that time of year again! Apple season is one of the most anticipated and exciting time of the year for fall lovers, and the perfect weekend getaway if you want to escape the city. The Sagamore is just a quick train ride or drive from some of New York’s best apple orchards. Below are some in the local area, not more than an hour away from the Upper West Side where you can do your entire apple picking this fall!
Apple Ridge Orchards (Warwick): With over 20 different varieties of apples grown on site, Apple Ridge is one of the Hudson Valley’s most popular apple picking spots. Open for picking Thursday-Sunday they offer much more than just apples making the trip up from The Sagamore worth the time. Take a hayride around the orchard or stop at the petting zoo and feed some of the local farm animals. Guests can also enjoy a seasonal corn maze that is open to explore only in the fall. Wilkin’s Fruit Farm (Yorktown heights): Apple harvest season begins on September 3rd at Wilkin’s Farm which is 45 minutes north of the Upper West Side. A hay wagon takes guests out to the orchards where you can choose from delicious Gala apples, Empire apples and mix with 11 other apple varieties. There are also plenty of markets onsite for homemade baked good, hot apple cider, homemade fudge and fresh apple cider donuts.
Stuart’s Fruit Farm (Granite Springs): Stuart’s is less than an hour from The Sagamore and has 5 different apple varieties to choose from for the month of September for some of the best apple picking!
