The First Day of Spring is March 19! Visit These Local Parks For The Season

After a long winter, we can’t wait for spring – and since the first day of the season is coming up on Thursday, March 19, we don’t have to wait for much longer! Soon, you can wipe out that cabin fever and get outside for some biking, hiking, walking and exploring.

One of the best parts of the springtime is wandering some of the parks near our Sagamore apartments and taking in the fresh air, whether you decide to go for a breather alone, with the whole family or just with Fido for an afternoon out. If this sounds good to you, check out these parks near your Sagamore apartment!

Theodore Roosevelt Park, located at 200 Central Park West, New York which is a five minute drive from your Sagamore apartment, is a park surrounding the American Museum of Natural History with paths, grassy areas and a dog run.

Theodore Roosevelt Park serves as a place of relaxation and delight for neighbors and tourists, including the approximately five million people who visit the Museum each year. And thanks to the flowers that now bloom from early spring through late fall, they are now also home to a population of hummingbirds!

Central Park, located between the Upper West Side and the Upper East Side which is an eight minute walk from your Sagamore apartment, is a sprawling park with pedestrian paths and ballfields, plus a zoo, carousel, boat rentals and a reservoir.

Since day one, Central Park has been the city dweller’s backyard: a lush and wide-open retreat from the swarming cityscape just beyond its perimeter. With 840 acres, it’s also the city’s fifth largest park by area.

Summer Movie Nights in NYC

Embrace a change of scenery and head to one of NYC’s many parks this summer for a trip to the theatre! While it may not be your typical movie plaza with popcorn, soda and cushioned seats, parks around the city will be hosting their very own movie nights all summer long. Bring your own snacks, a blanket and catch a great film with friends. Here are some places our Sagamore residents can visit for summer movies this year.

Riverside Park: If Pixar films hold a special place in your heart bringing you back to your own childhood movie screenings, the Riverside Park Summer Movie Series is a must attend event! Films like Toy Story, Wall-E and Up will be shown throughout the summer at Pier 1, right here on the West Side!

Randall’s Island: Catch a summer flick outside at Randall Park in NYC! They will be hosting their summer movie nights through the End of August for the 25th year in a row. They will be showing a variety of films such as kid favorites like Inside Out, Coco and comedic favorites like Sister Act and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.

Bryant Park: Bryant Park will be hosting a variety of summer movies this year now through August 10th. Films range from classic favorites like The Breakfast Club to action adventures like the terminator. Grab drinks or snacks before any showing by visiting the Upper Terrace or Hester Street Fair.

Central Park: The Central Park Conservatory will host film screenings starting in August between Sheep’s Meadow and 72nd street. Films will be shown throughout one week during the month beginning at 8pm. This years lineup includes The Muppets, Hair and more! Gates open at 6 and a DJ will provide entertainment until the movie begins.
