Whether you carve it or simply pull out the paintbrushes, there’s no better way to celebrate October and the Halloween season by decorating your own pumpkin. Of course, you first have to pick it out!
Near the Upper West Side, we have much more than our share of restaurants and stores – we also have several farms within a short drive where we can get in the autumn spirit for the day and find that perfect pumpkin, whether you need a wagon to cart it home or it fits in the palm of your hand. Check out these pumpkin patches near home for a fun fall day!
Queens County Farm Museum, located at 73-50 Little Neck Pkwy, Queens, NY which is about 45 minutes from your Sagamore apartment, is the oldest continuously-running farm in the state right in the heart of the city.
The 47-acre farm includes historic farm buildings, a greenhouse complex, livestock, farm vehicles and implements, planting fields, an orchard and herb garden. Plus, they have a pumpkin patch that’s open on October weekends from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Brightwaters Farms, located at 1624 Manatuck Blvd, Bay Shore, NY which is about one hour and 15 minutes from your Sagamore apartment, has been in business since the late 1600’s and grows items such as hay, flowers, pumpkins, perennials and trees.
Through the end of October, visitors can come to Brightwaters Farms almost any day of the week from 12-5 p.m. during the weekdays and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the weekends for some pumpkin picking and other fall fun.
