Watch the Macy’s Day Parade Here on The Upper West Side!

The Upper West Side will be buzzing with excitement on November 23rd and November 24th as the neighborhood prepares for the biggest Thanksgiving Day celebration in the country, Macy’s 90th Annual Thanksgiving Day Parade! All the preparation takes place here on the Upper West Side and it is also the starting location for the parade itself.

Right here on the Upper West Side, is where all the excitement and magic begins! On Thanksgiving Eve, November 23rd, the balloons will line the streets all around the Upper West Side in preparation for Thanksgiving morning. If you make your way down a few blocks from The Sagamore to 79th street, you will get to see most of the inflatables that will be headlining the parade the next day. They are located on Columbus Avenue traditionally, and run along the blocks in the high 70’s. If you happen to be a member of one of the local museums (American Museum of Natural History or New-York Historical Society) you can gain special access to get a close up look at the balloons, as well as participate in their fun events! To learn more about these special offers and how you can participate, visit both of their websites. You can also take a holiday stroll around and try to beat the crowds to get a sneak peek!

If this is the year you are looking to catch a glimpse of the parade, you can head a few avenues over to Central Park West the morning of November 24th. Bleachers line the side of the road for early birds and other guests can line the streets to watch. The performers and bands will as always have their main performance in front of Macy’s on 34th Street. This article by TimeOut magazine has great suggestions for the best viewing spots, as well as the parade route.
